Fall Leaves

You:                 Help everyone find clarity on the mat, and purpose in life. (Write your “why” here)

Theme:            Fall Leaves. Sometimes loss creates a scar.

HOVS:             Grace, Surrender, Boundaries and Healing (Others could be patience, attention, trust, strength)

Anecdote:

Every year nature does its thing. The leaves fall to make room for the spring bloom. I noticed on my baby tree that where the leaf used to be, there’s a tiny scar now. This scar is as important as shedding the leaf. The tree no longer needs this leaf, it no longer serves, so it lets it go. And now in its place is a tiny scar. The scar serves as protection for the long winter. If there was no scar, the tree’s sap would bleed out. But a scar is like a boundary, and now the healing can take place for new growth. In our yoga, we might have to learn to let go of certain behaviors that no longer serve, that in fact, hold us back from new growth. It might be a pose or an action born from the ego. Let’s practice with the courage to surrender to what is today, and allow our scars to protect and heal us for tomorrow.

Contemplation

Nature teaches us the art of attention and patience. Accept things. Be still. Leaves don’t simply fall one day. It is a long process. Don’t miss any of it. Wake up now. Scars are badges of courage and honor. They are meant to heal and protect. Sometimes you have to be the one who lets things go. Dharana is focused attention.

Golden Nuggets:

  • What can you let go of?
  • You can’t find new if you cling to the old.
  • Be patient.
  • Abundance starts with letting go.
  • A tree knows when to quit.
  • Scars make us stronger.
  • Scars heal us, protect us.
  • Scar tissue is a badge of courage.
  • Scars are good boundaries.
  • Surrender builds scar tissue.
  • Light enters through a wound.
  • Take time to heal. Take all winter!

WBF: Letting go is not easy. But if you can let go of something that no longer serves, then the scar tissue will make you stronger.
